Enclosed is a draft drawn on New York for $100 for E. R., because his brother George never applied for the money. Notes that Gen. [Harvey] Baldwin, a resident of Hudson and treasurer of the Western Reserve College, will in the future be able to write checks drawn on a bank in Boston because the college has funds in that city. Foot describes the character of Humphrey, per E. R.'s request, but part of his description is ripped off the page and lies under the wax seal. One can read, however, that Humphrey "is one of the first lawyers on the Reserve and was a candidate for a seat in Congress at the last election and came near being successful."
