R. and his remarks on this occasion are printed in the program. These same remarks are extant in a handwritten version as well and were sent by Everett to E. R.

I-2 1842, May 28 Letter to E. R. from Edward Everett in London. Informs E. R. that he has been awarded one of the Royal Geographical Society's gold medals, of which two are given annually, for his Biblical Researches in Palestine. Tells him that he had been asked by the Society to "receive the medal as your representative." He did so and now is forwarding the medal to New York. Indicates that E. R.'s work "enjoys a very enviable reputation."

I-1 1842, May 2 Letter to E. R. from President of the Royal Geographical Society in London, Wm. Hamilton, announcing that he has been awarded the gold medal "placed at their disposal namely by the Queen." Envelope is edged with a black border and measures 6 1/4cm x 9 3/4cm. This entire letter was forwarded to E. R. with the above item of April 23, 1842.

I-2 1842, May 29 Letter to E. R. from Col. J. R. Jackson, Secretary of the Royal Geographical Society in London. This is the official announcement that E. R. had been awarded the gold medal at the Society's meeting held 23 May 1842. The award was given for E. R.'s Biblical Researches in Palestine.

R. on being unanimously voted recipient of the Royal Geographical Society's medal. Purpose of this outer letter is to enclose and forward another letter + envelope from the President of the Royal Geographical Society, dated May 2, 1842. [It was to Lord Prudhoe that E. R. dedicated his Biblical Researches.]
